By education, I am a Counseling Psychologist; by trade, I am a psychotherapist in private practice in Kalamazoo, Michigan. My work focuses on adults, young adults (18+), and college students. I consider myself primarily to be a generalist, with additional focus on Mindfulness, anxiety/stress, really smart adults, women's & men's issues, weight/eating, personal growth, depression, chronic trauma, obsessive/compulsive features, borderline features, and identity (race/culture, masculinity/femininity, sexual orientation).

I am seeking clients who are interested in their own development on all levels -- decreasing suffering, increasing the ability to experience joy, improving awareness, and increasing the ability to make more conscious moment-to-moment choices.

My approach is to target the root causes of your difficulties in order to lessen the chance of their return after treatment ends. My interventions are chosen carefully to integrate all aspects of a client's personality, identity and history, and to address concerns in a manner that best matches the readiness and goals of each client. A solid, compassionate relationship is the basis of all my work.

For those of you who are familiar with the different psychological theories, I would describe myself as integrative, with my deepest roots in psychodynamic thinking, the Eastern philosophy of Mindfulness, relational theories, and theories with a strong focus on context such as multicultural and feminist theories. I also strongly value some of the latest research coming out of neurobiology and attachment theory, and try to maintain an active integration of those perspectives.

In addition to my experience as a psychologist, I have over 25 years of experience in the high stress world of business, and feel I well understand the challenges of that environment -- including seemingly endless changes in the workplace, job uncertainty, and career transition processes.

I also teach an 8-week course in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction. The course is modeled after Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn's Stress Reduction Clinic at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, which was featured in the Emmy-winning documentary "Healing and the Mind" with Bill Moyers.
